forrester for nj governor

Republican Doug Forrester ran against Robert Torricelli in the '02 New Jersey Senate campaign. You'll probably remember how Torricelli was engulfed in ethics charges for taking gifts from a contributor. Torricelli received all kinds of expensive swag, watches, cars, even a house.

I have respect for Forrester. He was cheated out of a Senate seat in '02--when the Democrats illegally replaced Torricelli with Frank Lautenberg at the 11th hour--and now he's back, running for Governor against Senator Jon Corzine.

It looked like Corzine was a shoe-in winner, when he leading by as much as 30 points, just a few weeks ago. Now Forrester has trimmed that lead, even pulling even in some polls.

A WNBC/Marist Poll of likely voters released Monday, 44% said they supported Corzine and 43% Forrester, with 13% undecided.
