Black people today in America are equal to the other races. Blacks hold positions of power in elected government, in corporate America, in specialized fields like medicine and law and they have unlimited opportunities in education.Take a trip to the South. Everything is integrated. It's amazing. I never thought I'd see the day, especially in places like Louisiana, where the races now eat together in restaurants. Twenty years ago it wasn't that way.
Today, Martin Luther King Day 2006, I believe Dr. King's dream has been largely achieved. In fact, I believe if King were alive today he would be both amazed and surprised at what he would see.
I say amazed because of the tremendous progress that has been made. A black woman is the Secretary of State? A black man is head of Housing and Urban Development? A black man is CEO of Time Warner? A black man is the Lieutenant Governor of Maryland. King would be ecstatic.
I also think MLK would be dismayed at the culture of entitlement and bigotry present in the black community and the so-called Democratic Party today. I believe King would be horrified to see the way Liberal politicians use blacks every election cycle to reinforce the myth that the American dream is not as attainable for the black as it is for the white or the asian or the muslim among us.

If Liberal politicians did not sow those seeds of discontent, they'd have nothing at all to stand on.
