rfl election preview: casey vs. santorum (pennsylvania)

Longtime RFL readers know that I'm a big fan of Rick Santorum. He's a classy guy and the Senate is a better place with him as a member.

Democrats have targeted Santorum this year because of his effectiveness -- and hand-picked the scion of an Pennsylvania political legend, Bob Casey, Jr. as his opponent.

The father, the former Governor Robert Casey (1987-1995) should have been the national Democratic poster boy due to the special attention he paid to civil rights causes. Ironically, Governor Casey was all but denied the keynote speaking role at the 1992 Democratic National Convention because of his staunchly pro-life beliefs.

Diss the old man but butter up the son so he'll run against Santorum? What's that about? Too bad the son is a lightweight. Check out this statement of brillance: "This isn't a discussion about public policy, this is an election, and politics in this state is a contact sport."

'Contact sport' is code for 'playing dirty.' More comments like that and it will be a cakewalk for Santorum, who is well qualified to engage in a debate about said public policy.
