mayor boris

Boris Johnson, the 43 year old newly elected conservative mayor of London is a charismatic, self-deprecating, fascinating guy. He was born in New York and, until recently, was an American citizen.

It's amazing how many new conservative America-friendly Europeans are being elected to high office.

Not only is London finally rid of the ghastly Ken Livingstone, the Labour party suffered it's worst election results in 40 years and Conservatives are in charge of Great Britain again. As they should be.

Make no mistake about this -- Labour's glad Livingstone's gone too. If the election had gone a lot better for the Labour party, they might actually admit this to their fellow Brits. Blair hated that guy, but there was nothing he could do to get rid of Red Ken. The more interesting question is how much goodwill Gordon Brown has left (if any) with the British people. This was a rather decisive and humilating loss for Labour, and they have some work to do if they want to keep the government in Gordon Brown's hands.

Brown is not a politician, he's a wonk. He should step aside for the good of Labour.

I'm looking forward to what Cameron and Boris are going to do. Conservatives in charge of Great Britain. As it should be.

Cameron isn't a conservative in the vein of Reagan, Senator DeMint, Governor Sanford, or other great conservatives. He's a moderate like McCain and he believes in the global warming myth.

still the lesser of two evils though, I'd pick him over Brown any day.

In England, as in Canada and France and Germanny, 'conservatism' is a more nuanced to be sure.

But... right will always be superior to left on the important issues.
