The pigs at the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) went on strike at ports up and down the West Coast of the United States yesterday to protest the war in Iraq, and, ostensibly to leverage contract negotiations two months before the current labor agreement expires.

Leverage for contract negotiations? Fine. But interrupting and penalizing legitimate businesses to make a political point? Unacceptable.

Apparently, the point of view of the 'progressive' leadership of the ILWU is that ending the war and ceding Iraq to Iran and al Qaeda is preferable to winning. What's 'progressive' about losing?

The ILWU has a long history of this kind of anti-Americanism. Australian immigrant Harry Bridges, a driving force behind the ILWU in in the 1940's, was a communist. A Stalinist.

How else to explain this type of feckless ideology? Taking the argument to an otherwise logical conclusion, an American victory in this or any war benefits all Americans. It wouldn't surprise me in the least that enemies of America, and I include the ILWU in that group, are working to aid America's enemies.
