freedom
What has been lost in all of the discussion about the shoe throwing incident in Iraq is the right of the man to throw his shoes at a visiting head of state.
That visiting head of state, in fact, is responsible for the man being free to throw the shoes. That is democracy.

Catlike reflexes. That's all I can really say. Oh, except for two other things -
1) Notice how Bush is pretty much grinning the whole time.
2) Notice, after the man initially goes down, how Bush waves to his Secret Service detail. Basically, he was telling them to go easy on the guy.
That's character.
I agree. He's a great man of character, decency and integrity. He will be missed by a lot of decent people around the world.
The Iraqis hate this butcher just like the rest of the world. They came together across sectarian lines to celebrate this incident. But do you realize how stupid you sound when you say that it is democracy when you can throw your shoes at a visiting head of state? Tell that to the journalist who has been tortured by your puppet regime for this act.
Okay, I'll say it again.
Without President Bush this Iraqi journalist wouldn't have the freedom to throw his shoes at any public figure or elected person.
Do you realize how stupid you sound by failing to acknowledge the obvious?
The journalist was immediately arrested, tortured, and now faces a fifteen year prison sentence. You are an idiot. If freedom means freedom to do whatever you want as long as you are not afraid to face retaliation by the state than Iraq is no more free now than it was under Saddam. You Americans need to get over yourselves. Your not that great. The rest of the world hates you. From the time you used atomic weapons to slaughter hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians to the three million Iraqis you have killed in the Iran-Iraq war you started, the Persian Gulf War, the sanctions, and now this latest oil war. You are just as evil as Hitler, and your nation has been just as deadly for the world.
Just making sure, this is a serious post and not a satirical one, right?
Very serious post. Had this journalist thrown his shoes at Saddam he would have been chopped into little pieces.
Bush has given this guy a voice. Liberals around the world should be rejoicing and singing Bush's praises! He did what Clinton didn't have the balls to do.
uh...right he was tortured by the Iraqi governmnet for using this new "voice".
