slim margin

This closely watched NY 20 Congressional election is over and Scott Murphy, a Democrat, has prevailed over Republican Assemblyman Joe Tedisco.

GOP opportunity lost? Obviously, but it was close. The President campaigned for Murphy and he only won by 399 votes?

That's some weak coattails you got there, BO.

I think I almost agree with you on this one, except for the part about Obama campaigning for Murphy. As far as I'm aware the president didn't make an appearance with Murphy, didn't give him one penny and didn't openly endorse him. I could be wrong on that and would be willing to concede if you prove it otherwise. But if I'm right, that really isn't much for campaigning.

Had the president really wanted to, he would have landed Air Force Once smack dab in the middle of NY-20, drawn about 100,000 people to a speech and openly campaigned for Murphy. Had that happened it would not have been any where close.

On the other hand, this press release from the DNC claiming a 399 vote victory is a referandum in support of the president's agenda is ridiculous. NY-20 is not heavily Republican like the Dems want people to believe; it's been rather purplish in color for about a decade.

I definitely see it as a Democratic victory, but I wouldn't call it a repudiation of the GOP at all, which is what the Dems are doing.

Tedisco has been part of the establishment here in Albany for decades. I used to see his signs on lawns when I was in 5th grade. Were he not seen as a 'career politician', and if his allies in the State Senate not tried to sell him down the river a few years back, he would have won.

Oh, and I wish Obama had landed AF1 on Rt 20 - it's the bumpiest road in the state. Even my Cadillac, which is normally like a cruise ship with wheels, feels like a Boston Whaler in chop on that road.
