Edward "Ted" Kennedy of Massachusetts served in the U.S. Senate for 47 years.

This was the real Teddy Kennedy.

Spinmeisters saved him from himself and with soft media coverage and an adoring liberal Massachusetts constituency, his political career flourished.

We'll continue to hear amplified accounts about the life and times of 'The Lion of the US Senate,' but it's important to remember the entire story.

Including his offer to Russia to help thwart Reagan while he was trying to win the cold war. Looked for something online about that today, but could not find anything. Will have to dig a little deeper.
