shoot the messenger, blame bush

"Rahm Emanuel once sent a dead fish to a live pollster. Now he's put a horse's head in Roger Ailes' bed. Not very subtle. And not very smart. Ailes doesn't scare easily." -Charles Krauthammer

Hope and Change? Not really. The Obama Administration has been behaving lately in a manner that is in equal measure tawdry and wrong-headed.

The Obama Campaign has apparently decided that since they can't win the argument in the free market place of ideas they mights as well run for the cover of their Saul Alinsky playbook. Dismiss, isolate, marginalize, demonize, discredit, ... whatever is necessary to appear to have won the argument. It's classic Alinsky.

Alinsky, boiled down, is basically: if you can't win the argument on the merits, do whatever is necessary to win. (Win, or at least appear to the majority of the people to have won.) So if that means vilifying the insurance industry, the Commerce Department, or Fox News, it doesn't matter if it appears unseemly or un-presidential. As long as the opposition has been silenced or otherwise neutralized, the ends justify the means. It's the Chicago Way.

The Administration's war with Fox News also happens to be a tactical blunder, by the way. The left-leaning Bob Beckel, Terry McCauliffe, David Gergen, Jake Tapper, Helen Thomas, Juan Williams, and Mara Liason would agree.

But what these short sighted Alinskyites, like Rahm Emmanuel, will never understand perhaps is that their ways are quintessentially un-American. The American experiment, our Constitutional Republic, has always had at its core a robust political discourse. The first amendment is listed first for a reason.

That Team Obama wants to now control the manner in which civics and politics are discussed by attempting to intimidate Fox News or any other entity that dares to disagree with Administration dogma is not only a sign that they've lost the argument, it's patently un-American. It is in fact Stalin-esque.

And any problem that the Obama Campaign can't appear to be able to cope with; the economy, Afghanistan, Bush Bashing is the order of the day. Just when you had hoped that they'd perhaps have moved on to a different campaign rationale, a new Raison d'être, they run for the cover of Bush Bashing to explain away their own failures as they begin to pile up.

So while we still await an Afghanistan strategy from Obama as he ponders the short term political consequences, we at least now know what their long term political campaign strategy is: shoot the messenger, blame Bush.

I'm sure you both realize that publicly criticizing the president is anti-American and only aids our enemies.

Living in the Republican Fantasy World has gotta suck.

Back to that again?

I'm a little shocked that you can't challenge any of my assertions.

If only you thought I was allowed to question the President at all, an arrangement I don't recall signing up for, you might entirely agree with me.

Are you kidding me? Can't challenge your assertions? Your very post is in direct violation of your Fantasy World where public criticism of the president is anti-American. All of your so-called "assertions" collapse under the weight of you and Kent's make-believe world where public criticism only aids our enemies.

There's no point in challenging your assertions, you already do it for me; or I do it by linking to your very words. If you or Kent were the least bit responsible, consistent or knowledgeable, you would practice what you preach. Until then I'll just keep pointing it out.

Whatever happened to the notion that dissent was the highest form of patriotism?

Answer: it died shortly before Obama's pledge to be the most transparent admnistration in history and his pledge not to raise taxes on the middle class.

Tactic: find a way to be able to dismiss the arguments of your opponent in order to avoid adressing them.

Example: rather than address the substance of Dick Cheney's criticism of Obama's foreign policy simply conclude that Cheney has no credibility and presto, all of Cheney's points have magically been refuted.

Chris, the fact that all you have is this flawed notion that by criticizing Obama I'm somehow being inconsistent in fact makes my point. Can't win the argument on the merits? Shoot the messenger, blame Bush.

Tell me what color is the sky in your world?

You are thoroughly confused. I never said dissent was unpatriotic. Kent did and you cheered him on. Neither am I dismissing your post. I'm only holding you to your past and how you viewed dissent when Republicans were in power. Own it.

There is absolutely no criticism of yours that needs to be addressed that isn't already summed up by your past words. If there was the slightest bit of integrity you would follow this blog's very own views on disagreeing with the president. According to you and Kent, you are publicly disagreeing with the president acting anti-American and aiding our enemies. The only person dismissing anything is you. You want to pretend that Kent's post was never written or that somehow what you are saying now is reasoned. But it's not. You are doing the exact thing this blog called anti-American when Bush was in power. The only thing that has changed is Bush is gone and you can't hold your own self to your own standard.

A passing car to a dog.
A pipe to a crack whore. Booze to a wino.
A moth to a flame.

Blog the word 'Bush,' and Chris automatically comes running, frothing @ the mouth, repeating 'Republican fantasy world, Republican fantasy world.'

His 'research director' must monitor our blogs 24/7, Jazzy. Kind of a compliment, really.

Well, to be fair I did link to his latest Bush Bashing post in the final paragraph. But he did predictably fall into my trap by using the same kind of tactics against us as Team Obama tries to use to either dismiss or explain away via Bush Bashing anyone who disagrees with them.

I'm tired of all the Obama bashing. Be a real American, support your democratically elected President and in 4 years vote him out if you do not agree with him. But during the Presidency, you should be a 'team' player and support the leader the people elected. It's explained clearly in this link;
Support your president;
