lame duck

The founders had long distances to travel to and from Washington DC. The lame duck Congress was intended to give lawmakers the time to go home after the midterm election and then come back again in the new year for the new Congress.

A lame duck was never intended to be a repository for neglected Congressional business or a forum to ram pet projects through on partisan majorities.

But what do the Democrats care? The politics of Obama, Pelosi and Reid (the pigs at the trough, above) were thoroughly repudiated in November. The Republicans will be the majority in the House of Representatives come January, but until that time the dying majority of anti-American Leftists are ignoring the will of the people again (just as they did with Obamacare) and are attempting to pass a new $1.1 trillion dollar spending bill!

This omnibus bill contains some 6,488 earmarks of vital, pressing people's business like:

$277,000 for potato pest management in Wisconsin
$246,000 for bovine tuberculosis in Michigan and Minnesota
$522,000 for cranberry and blueberry disease and breeding in New Jersey
$500,000 for oyster safety in Florida
$349,000 for swine waste management in North Carolina
$413,000 for peanut research in Alabama
$247,000 for virus free wine grapes in Washington
$208,000 beaver management in North Carolina
$94,000 for blackbird management in Louisiana
$165,000 for maple syrup research in Vermont
$235,000 for noxious weed management in Nevada
$100,000 for the Edgar Allen Poe Cottage Visitor’s Center in New York
$300,000 for the Polynesian Voyaging Society in Hawaii
$400,000 for solar parking canopies and plug-in electric stations in Kansas

Is there a more disgusting person on the face of the planet than Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi? The woman has consistently and arrogantly abrogated all common sense and responsibility of her job since taking power in 2007.

The existence of jet planes mean there should never again be a lame duck Congress.

Politics has become a disgusting business. Democrats and Republicans should put a stop to these earmarks immediately and deal with these issues openly.

I hope Republicans put forth an amendment banning future lame duck sessions of Congress.
